Tuxedos vs. Suits: How to Know Which Is Right for your Wedding Day

One of the first questions we commonly hear from a groom as he begins to look at his wedding day attire is: Do I wear a tuxedo or suit? Ultimately the wedding attire “theme” or dress code, venue, time of day and your style preferences will decide your answer. Fabric Details: Tuxedos have satin lapels and buttons, with optional satin on the side of the pants. Suits have regular buttons and fabric that matches the jacket.
Style: Tuxedos are generally worn with a bow tie and black patent shoes. Suits have belt loops on the pants. Guys in suits wear long ties with dress shoes.
Black Tie or Formal Wedding: If you’re getting married on the weekend evening or the invite calls for black tie attire a tuxedo is the perfect classic option. Traditional and always elegant, renting or buying a tux will help set the high-fashion tone for your wedding.
Daytime Weddings: A suit is a great way to go to afternoon or morning weddings.
Casual or Semi Formal: If your event is laid back or you’ll be outdoors a suit will work.
